Adaptive Computation
``Adaptive computation'' refers to both natural and engineered systems that, through interaction with their environment, change their models of the external world, behavioral strategies, focus of attention, and response to external data. Examples of adaptive computation in nature abound; prominent examples can be found in the nervous and immune systems of individual organisms, and in collections of cooperating organisms. In human-designed systems, adaptive computation finds application in automated pattern-recognition, control, adaptive computer interfaces, computer security, financial prediction and trading, data mining, and many other fields.
